Topic: Physical Security and Technical Intelligence
Technical Level: Lightly Technical.
Speaker: Robert Beggs
Traditionally, breaches in physical security allow attackers to compromise security and privacy by stealing devices that contain information or planting sniffing software. Technical intelligence (TI) is a class of attacks that extend this further, relying on small physical devices to record data flows, or "bugs" to capture voice and minature cameras to capture images. Although TI used to a practice used by law enforcement and government "acronym" agencies, the market is now flooded with such devices, making it possible for competitors and employees to conduct these attacks. This talk will review the state of the art, featuring Canadian-specific examples and case law, and overview the possible defences.
